As the name suggests they are found mostly on hills that overlook and dominate areas of strategic importance, near to rivers or trackways. Inside, there is more than enough space for lots of round houses, workshops, granaries and the keeping of livestock.
Today all that remains are the impressive banks and ditches, but by visiting them you will see how much effort was needed to actually construct these places.
